Renée Slegers has made a long-term commitment to Arsenal after the head coach signed a new contract at the Women’s Super League club until 2029.
The extension comes with Arsenal third in the WSL table, eight points behind the leaders Manchester City at the halfway stage.
Slegers, whose 18-month deal was set to expire at the end of this season, guided the north London club to Champions League glory last season as well as finishing runners-up in the league behind Chelsea.
The 36-year-old Dutchwoman became interim head coach in October 2024 following Jonas Eidevall’s resignation, and took the job full time after overseeing an 11-match unbeaten run. The Gunners remain undefeated at home in the WSL under her leadership.
“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract here, as I believe we have so much to achieve together – this season and in the years to come,” Slegers said. “From playing in the academy and being in the stands watching Arsenal win the Champions League in 2007, to living it with our players, staff and supporters last summer, I’m immensely proud to have shared this journey with Arsenal, a club that means so much to me and to so many people.
“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract here, as I believe we have so much to achieve together – this season and in the years to come.”

The club’s director of women’s football, Clare Wheatley, said of Slegers’ new deal: “Renée has proved to be an elite coach with the capabilities to lead us as we continue to challenge to win major trophies. Together with our supporters, we look forward to continuing our successful journey with Renée in the years to come.”
Richard Garlick, Arsenal’s chief executive, added: “Renée has already achieved great things as our head coach. Beyond this, Renée has embraced the values and ambitions of Arsenal, driving standards and progress as we aim to compete consistently at the top of the women’s game.”
Arsenal also confirmed the appointment of their former striker Jodie Taylor as women’s technical director. The former England international, who won the golden boot at 2017’s European Championship, has been working as the club’s technical services manager.
