Frontline: Our Soldiers … Facing Putin

8pm, Channel 4
What at first seems to be an episode of SAS: Who Dares Wins is actually an exclusive and all-too-real two-part look at Nato soldiers training to defend Europe’s borders against Putin – including Estonia’s border with Russia. Filmed throughout last year, cameras follow the soldiers, commanders and leaders involved in military tests, taking them from underground command bunkers to frozen forests, occupied beaches and up into the skies. Winter Olympics 2026: Opening Ceremony

6.30pm, BBC Two
The parade of delegations and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron are opening ceremony mainstays, but Milano Cortina 2026 will feature two cauldrons – one at the Arco della Pace in Milan and the other in the upscale ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo. And in Milan’s San Siro stadium, there will be live musical performances from Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli. Ellen E Jones

Death in Paradise

9pm, BBC One
When a marriage counsellor washes up dead on the shores of Saint Marie, suspicion falls on the two couples under her care. It’s a stress-inducing case for tropical detective Mervin (Don Gilet), not least because his incorrigible half-brother, Solomon (Daniel Ward), has cheerfully done a runner with most of his wardrobe. Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy

9pm, ITV1
If you must dramatise real serial killers’ awful crimes, make a show as sober and thoughtful as this one. The police have captured John Wayne Gacy (Michael Chernus) but are met with disarming playfulness. Back in 1975, Johnny Szyc (Levi Shelton) is a secretly gay high-school student whose life is sketched with skilful tenderness. Jack Seale

Under Salt Marsh

9pm, Sky Atlantic
Is there a connection between Nessa and Kevin’s suspicious deaths? Teacher Jackie (Kelly Reilly) and her former colleague, detective Eric Bull (Rafe Spall), are just about on good enough terms to team up and get people in their rural Welsh town to speak. But it throws up hard truths for Jackie. Perfect cosy crime fare. HR

The Graham Norton Show

10.40pm, BBC One
The all-new Heathcliff and Cathy – Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, that is – chat about Emerald Fennell’s much-hyped adaptation of Wuthering Heights. They are joined by The Testament of Ann Lee star Amanda Seyfried, who talks all things Shaker, while music comes from Jacob Alon. HR

M3gan 2.0 (Gerard Johnstone, 2025), 12.30pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere

Like Chucky in the Child’s Play films, you can’t keep an evil doll down for long. So here’s a sequel to the 2022 horror about an AI-led robot that will do anything, including murder, to protect its young human charge. This time, M3gan has been superseded by Amelia, an even deadlier model that’s gone rogue from its military handlers. Allison Williams and Violet McGraw return as inventor Gemma and her niece Cady, who reluctantly join forces – Mission: Impossible style – with the rebooted M3gan to defeat the new bot on the block. With a healthy seam of sarcasm (there’s a superb misuse of a Kate Bush song), plus the odd serious thought about the future of AI, it’s a fun ride. Simon Wardell

Silver Haze (Sacha Polak, 2023), 11pm, BBC Two

Esmé Creed-Miles appears to be whispering in Vicky Knight’s ear.
Trauma tale … Esmé Creed-Miles (left) and Vicky Knight in Silver Haze.

Actor Vicky Knight and director Sacha Polak are becoming quite the team. After Dirty God in 2019, they reunited for Silver Haze, another traumatic tale about love, hate and unexpected families. Knight plays a nurse, Franky, who is physically and emotionally scarred after a fire 15 years earlier and harbours vengeful thoughts against those responsible. Then she meets a suicidal patient, Florence (Esmé Creed-Miles), and falls fatefully in love with her. This is far from the “normal” relationship she desires, but Flo’s grandma (Angela Bruce) could help her to a solution. SW
