A senior city banker suspected of pushing a woman into the path of a moving bus in the “Putney pusher” case has been found dead.
Nicholas Brandram, 44, was discovered at his home in Chiswick, west London, on Tuesday.
He was arrested in June by the Metropolitan police in connection with a 2017 incident in which a jogger running across Putney Bridge pushed a woman towards an oncoming bus.
She only avoided serious injury after the driver swerved around her at the last moment.
Brandram was a director at HSBC and had previously served in the military, reaching the rank of captain.
He was released on bail by detectives in June after being arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. In September, after answering bail, he was re-bailed with no conditions.
Video footage showed the woman being pushed by a male jogger. She fell into the road, with the jogger running on.
The Met wound down its investigation in 2018, after interviewing 50 men and arresting three suspects. The case, which attracted considerable attention, was unsolved.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Met said: “At 19.12 on Tuesday, 15 September officers and the London ambulance service attended an address in Chiswick, Hounslow after a man was found unresponsive inside a property.
“Sadly, a 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
“At this time his death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.”

Brandram was the grandson of Princess Katherine of Greece, who was the great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, the Daily Telegraph reported in 2013 when he was convicted of crashing his Harley-Davidson motorbike into a female cyclist around Hyde Park Corner, before driving off without leaving his details.
In an interview with the Citywealth website in March this year, Brandram said he was a senior relationship manager at HSBC Private Bank.
He said: “I usually bicycle into our office in Mayfair from my home in west London. And then from there, can either stay at my desk, go to Canary Wharf or the City, or get on a train or go to the airport. My first meeting is ideally over breakfast and I’m ideally home for bath time. I’m a co-parenting single father with a three-year-old.”
Brandram said his proudest professional achievement was being invited to a Buckingham Palace garden party after military service in Afghanistan, and that the person he most admired was his mother. “She raised three children as a single parent and is the busiest person I know,” he said. “I’ve never met someone with greater moral integrity and courage, as well as resilience and stamina.”
